Media ShopTalk: w/c 18 May 2009 Being part of the Interpublic Group of Companies (IPG), we have access to a number of resources internationally.
Attached is a copy of the April newsletter that we subscribe to : Magna Markets Monthly.
This issue is of particular interest to us as it covers three areas that we as South Africans are being faced with on a daily basis:- · Global Media Pricing Trends · “Less Down” Markets Later in the Year = Negotiate Now? · From Media Planning & Buying to Media Procurement As the economic crunch continues to put enormous stress on many client’s budgets, we do indeed put extra pressure on the media owners to come to the negotiation table to get better, more favourable rates. This is clearly an international trend when you read the attached – however internationally they adopt a “walk away” strategy which forces the media owners to come to the party! Going into the second half of 2009, a number of clients will be going into new fiscals and new negotiations. Many may want to adopt the “walk away” strategy. We have no doubt that this will put extra pressure on the media owners, however whether or not they will be able to meet the criteria laid out will be interesting to see! Until next week!
